DO WE OPT IN OR OPT OUT
More and more companies these days are offering Boiler Service Contracts:
a fixed price annual fee for a certain level of service, often with additional "added extras".They come in a bewildering variety of names and types depending on your APPLIANCES and system type, with a wide range of prices and options.
It looks like a confusing picture at first,
but essentially they all work the same way.
A guaranteed annual boiler service
If you choose to take out a boiler service contract the bare minimum you should receive will be -
your guessed it! - an annual service.
The advantage of doing this on a contract basis is that you may get a discount on the companies boiler service charge.
They’ll also keep track of when your boiler service is due and contact you to make arrangements, which can be very handy if you have a hard time remembering over the course of a whole year. but be sure you are aware of terms conditions as some restrictions that may apply.
Beyond boiler servicing -
the benefits of a contract
In addition to your annual service -
probably at the same price or maybe even cheaper than the companies normal charge -
you can expect to get something extra thrown in by opting for a boiler maintenance contract because your contract business is predictable and therefore preferable for central heating maintenance firms. They know if they do a good job you’ll probably stay with them, so they may offer incentives to reward your continued business.
An excellent bonus to look out for is free emergency call out -
in the event of a heating emergency you could find yourself paying far more,
than the cost of an annual service and getting a plumber or engineer to your door, so this is particularly useful if you have an older or problematic system. but be warned you may be asked to have a site survey done first before been accepted . and this, been the case it would make you think will i really need the type of contract, if they only take on trouble free systems.
Also worth looking for is a discount on parts. Should your boiler or central heating system require repairs some companies will offer a discount on parts required, which can save a small fortune on major repairs.
IF THEY HAVE THIS OFFER ......
At the higher end boiler insurance-
At the higher end boiler maintenance contracts some may even offer totally free parts and labour. You'll pay a fair amount more than you would for a simple service, of course, but this type of boiler service contract is essentially
“boiler insurance”
and may make sense if you dread surprise bills or have any concerns about your central heating system. but like all in insurance policy be aware of site survey visits and normal ware and tare clauses time scale etc , and other specific terms and conditions that may be only announced when you actually encounter a problem.
Boiler service contracts - are they worth it?
Whether you need a boiler service contract depends on a wide range of factors, and there’s no right answer to the question.
However, we are usually inclined is to say.
YES!
its just our nature
(as sometimes it hard to say NO when considering gas safety)
but before deciding do your own cost/risk analysis
that is either my appliance will break or it will not.
will i pay insurance as i go and if it fails will i be covered.
or should i have went for the pay as you go and see how i get on.
regardless of all the above it will be your decision !!
but after reading through most of the above you will be better informed.
but do make sure you use a registered gas engineer..
Research has shown that boilers seldom ever have services performed on an annual basis. We tend to service our cars, which are our pride and joy but leave out critical appliances such as boilers.
With every GAS SAFETY CHECK we check to the IS.813 STANDARD.
AARK GAS PLUMBING HEATING will analyse your boiler to determine if the appliance is safe to use. All boilers fall into three categories safe, at risk, or immediately dangerous. Therefore there is a 1 in 3 chance that your boiler is safe to use.
AARK GAS will assess if your boiler, is a high gas guzzler wasting energy and raising your gas bills needlessly. also determine the CO/CO2 ratio of your boiler to determine if it is safe /or unsafe ,and if you are leaving a high carbon footprint on the environment.
Research has shown that many flu like symptoms can be attributed to low carbon monoxide poisoning from appliances. Poorly installed appliances producing high levels of carbon monoxide can be lethal to your family in a short period of time, even minutes.
Only REGISTERED GAS ENGINEERS can install and work on boilers. Unfortunately illegal gas workers have installed many boilers over the years.
which they where not competent to do .
If you have recently purchased a home,
do you know the history of the boiler ?
was it installed by a competent class of person?
Do you have details of the installer or company?
Has it been serviced annually?
Do you have a DECLARATION OF COMFORMANCE ?
Our GAS SAFETY CHECK will give you peace of mind.
We outline all our findings
and make recomendation of how to correct .
